Celtic fans react as club reportedly battling Southampton for Dejan Ljubicic

Celtic are reportedly rivalling Premier League side and bitter rivals Rangers in pursuit of Rapid Vienna midfielder Dejan Ljubicic this summer – and Hoops supporters have responded on Twitter.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Scottish champions want to sign 22-year-old Ljubicic as he continues to shine for Austrian side Rapid. He has clocked up a whopping 100 appearances in all competitions for his current side.

A holding midfielder that can also do a job at centre-back, Ljubicic has played 12 times in the Europa League – even scoring a winner against Rangers during the 2018-19 group stage campaign.

It is believed a bargain figure of just £2million is required, with Ljubicic having entered the final 12 months of his contract. He almost joined MLS side Chicago Fire in January, only for injury to prevent him from completing a deal.

The Mail claims that Celtic are battling Rangers for the midfielder, but also face competition from Premier League side Southampton who are renowned for their connection to Celtic. Brentford are also being linked.

The Hoops also have a decent connection with Ljubicic’s Rapid Vienna side, having raided the Austrian side for left-back Boli Bolingoli last summer.

Celtic supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Ljubicic is a target for Neil Lennon’s Celtic side – and many Hoops fans have urged their club to get a deal done in the coming months.
