Celtic fans give damning verdict on reported Arsenal target in online poll

Celtic fans have voted overwhelmingly in favour of Odsonne Edouard leaving the club.

Such a scenario was unthinkable over a year ago, but much has changed since then.

The Frenchman had already been linked with many of the 27 clubs to have been mentioned in connection with him, but after scoring 22 goals in 27 league games as Celtic cruised to a ninth successive title there were few supporters who would have been willing to take the money.

Now, however, the 24-year-old is far from flavour of the month. Despite a solid scoring record of 16 in 27 Premiership matches so far this season, he’s turned in some ineffective performances.

None more so than on Sunday, when he spurned some golden opportunities in the 2-0 Scottish Cup fourth round defeat against Rangers at Ibrox.

After Leigh Griffiths won a late penalty, Edouard fended off the Scotsman and insisted on taking the penalty, only for Allan McGregor to stop his limp effort.

That pretty much summed up a performance that was unrecognisable from the dynamism and threat that supporters would have associated with him in the past.

Arsenal, Tottenham and former manager Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City are among the many clubs to have been credited with an interest in the striker, and in a the vast majority of respondents backed him leaving the club.

Of the 4,401 who took part, only 17.3% were keen for the club to keep him on.

If, as expected, Edouard is to leave this summer, it looks like most Celtic fans won’t be losing too much sleep.
