Celtic eyeing last minute deadline day deal as they explore moves for two midfielders

Celtic are hoping for a busy end to this summer’s transfer window with one final deal in the works at Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers has already seen five new faces come through the doors with scope for more to follow.

However, Celtic are now up against the clock with the deadline later tonight providing them with a real battle to get their loose ends tied up.

The Hoops confirmed the signing of Alex Valle from Barcelona on Thursday which left the Celtic boss delighted.

But having lost some significant names over the course of the window, there may well be a feeling at Parkhead that there is still room for improvements to be made.

And it seems as if the Bhoys are looking to secure themselves a last minute deal with talks ongoing.

Celtic working on late deal for midfielder

Of course, the noteworthy piece of business sanctioned at Celtic this summer was the departure of Matt O’Riley.

The news did not go down well with Chris Sutton taking aim at Celtic for allowing O’Riley depart for the Premier League side Brighton.

With a player of such importance leaving the club, Celtic are going to need to find some adequate replacement which may come in the form of more than one player.

According to Anthony Joseph, Celtic are in pursuit of a deadline day signing of a new midfielder.

It is believed the Hoops are working on a number of potential deals with the deadline now really beginning to close in on clubs.

One of the options available to the Bhoys is the Dundee midfielder Luke McCowan but Celtic are also exploring a potential deal for Andy Irving from West Ham United.

However, there is an issue with the latter of those two players with the Premier League side keen to keep Irving around.

Celtic could end transfer window on a high note

Given O’Riley has marked such a significant departure, the need to bring in some further strength in the midfield cannot be understated.

It looks as if Celtic are going to be able to shut up shop when it comes to any further potential big name departures.

But with the first Old Firm of the season coming up on the weekend, adding another player just before the window shuts would be a huge boost around the club.

A long season is ahead of the Bhoys and with Champions League football being played, they are going to need a lot of strength in depth.
