Celtic did make moves to sign £8.5m striker in January

Celtic’s pursuit of a striker in the January window came to an end the minute the club signed Adam Idah on loan from Norwich City.

And whilst Idah enjoyed a fairly solid debut up at Aberdeen on Saturday, it is fair to say that the fans where slightly underwhelmed by the signing.

That’s no slight on the player. But when Brendan Rodgers spoke about bringing in quality but then landed an English Championship side’s third-choice striker, then the fans have every right to feel let down.

However, it seems that Rodgers did make moves to spend a fair chunk of the £70m Celtic have sitting in their bank account in January.

A report from claims that Celtic spoke to Brondby about the possibility of bringing Mathias Kvistgaarden to Glasgow.

The report said, “Football Scotland, however, can reveal that Celts did speak with Brondby fairly late on in the January window once again about the potential of bringing Kvistgaarden to the Premiership.

“Once more they were told a fee but they were also warned that the club did not want to sell in the winter market so no deal could be done.

“There was also no official offer put forward at that time.”

Indeed, this isn’t the first time that Celtic have been linked with a move for the £8.5m rated attacker. Speculation was rife during the summer window that the 21-year-old could be heading to Paradise.

TBR Celtic told how Kvistgaarden became of interest to Celtic in August but no move was made at that time to sign him.

Interest appeared to cool with no rumours appearing when the January window was open so this update will come as a bittersweet surprise to the Celtic support.

Will Rodgers look to make a move for the youngster in the summer? I guess this is one we will need to keep a close eye on.
