Celtic completing reported pursuit for Swiss ace could hand Rangers blow – TBR View
Celtic are reportedly closing in on the loan signing of West Ham United striker Albian Ajeti this summer after the Swiss ace struggled in his first season at the London Stadium – but could such a deal hand Rangers a transfer blow?
Ajeti, 23, joined West Ham from FC Basel last summer for a fee of £8million () but managed just 12 appearances throughout the 2019-20 campaign – failing to score a single goal or lay on an assist.
Celtic, though, are hopeful class is permanent in Ajeti’s case – after previously netting 43 in 96 Basel outings. this week that Celtic are expected to complete a season-long loan move for the striker.
But such a deal could deliver a hammer blow to Rangers’ work in the transfer market. Alfredo Morelos is the subject of talks with French side Lille – and the Gers are seemingly looking to bring in replacements for the Colombian.

that 21-year-old Bordeaux striker Josh Maja has been identified as a possible replacement for Morelos. He scored eight goals in 24 games for the French club last season – despite starting just eight of those outings.
But the twist comes in the form of West Ham also targeting Maja as a replacement for Ajeti. West Ham are keen on the one-time Nigeria cap – and the Hammers surely have a better chance than Rangers.
The Hammers have bigger financial capabilities, while David Moyes coached Maja during the duo’s time together at Sunderland. So, with Ajeti expected to join Celtic – West Ham are set to rival Rangers for Maja.
If a move for Ajeti goes through, then, surely Celtic signing the Swiss will see Rangers miss out on a move for Maja – given the Hammers have a much better chance of landing Maja than Rangers.
