Celtic can solve goalkeeper issue as Mourinho reportedly requests bargain price – TBR View

Jose Mourinho is reportedly requesting a bargain fee between £4.3million and £5.2million for AS Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen, who currently remains on loan at Premier League side Everton – and surely, Celtic have got to be tempted.

Olsen, 31, has managed just 11 appearances for Everton this season having joined from Roma on loan until the end of the season. But instead of managing to break past inconsistent Jordan Pickford, Olsen has remained on the bench.

Just three clean sheets in 11 games for the 42-time Sweden international could see Everton opt against signing Olsen on a permanent basis, with Pickford back to his best of late. Mourinho wants the bargain fee for Olsen.

Meanwhile, Celtic need a new goalkeeper. Vasilis Barkas is likely to be on the transfer list after a woeful first season in Scotland, while Scott Bain and Conor Hazard are not seen as number-one options. They desperately need to sign someone.

Fraser Forster remains the first choice for many but he has broken back in at Southampton, and is probably too expensive for the Scottish giants. Where Barkas went wrong, is he simply does not control his area – or offer a commanding area.

But the experienced Olsen, who is Mikael Lustig’s Sweden teammate, stands at a lofty 6ft 5in. Excellent from set-pieces and crosses, it makes up for his lack of ability with the ball at his feet. At a bargain £4.3million, Celtic need to take a look.

Selling Barkas and bringing in Olsen from Mourinho’s new side Roma, it would make utter sense for the Hoops to sign Olsen in the coming months – if they can convince the experienced Swede to chance his arm in Scotland.
