Celtic can assess Roberts tonight as he faces Rangers winger Grezda

Celtic need to find a new long-term replacement for Mikael Lustig, whose best years are behind him.

Lustig has been a loyal servant for Celtic at right-back over the years but his form has been patchy in the past two seasons.

The Sweden international needs a successor and .

The 23-year-old’s contract with Swansea City expires next summer and he could leave the Welsh club on a free transfer.

Celtic are eyeing a cut-price move for him in January or a pre-contract agreement to land him in the summer for nothing.

And Celtic have the perfect opportunity to assess Roberts’ suitability for the role as he goes head-to-head with Rangers winger Eros Grezda tonight.

Wales face Albania in a friendly match and Grezda could play on the left wing with Roberts marking him as a right-back.

Celtic scouts will be eagerly casting their eye over him and checking how he does against Grezda.

If he can keep the Rangers man quiet, then Roberts will show that he has the ability to triumph in a personal battle with one of Celtic’s rivals.

The Wales international will be hoping to earn his eight cap for his country and he could put himself in the shop window with a top performance.
