Celtic boost as English club sign right-back from Borussia Dortmund

Huddersfield Town have completed the signing of Herbert Bockhorn from Borussia Dortmund on a two-year deal, surely providing Celtic with a boost in pursuit of Terriers skipper Tommy Smith.

Bockhorn, 24, has joined Jan Siewert’s side on an undisclosed fee after working alongside Siewert during the Huddersfield manager’s time as a coach in his home country of Germany.

Now with Huddersfield adding to their ranks on the right side of their defence, they are surely more flexible on the future of Smith. that a fee between £3million and £4million is being discussed.

Other outlets have claimed that Celtic representatives have flown to Austria to engineer a compromise between the two parties, with Celtic only willing to pay £3million – while Huddersfield want £4million.

But momentum around the potential signing of Smith is certainly increasing, with the Hoops likely to be desperate to land the Terriers captain despite his lack of action last season.

Smith only managed 16 appearances last term, but 15 of those came in the Premier League. At just 27 years of age, he is set to enter the prime years of his career and that could include helping Celtic reach nine and 10 in a row

With just 12 months left on his current Huddersfield contract and the Championship side signing Bockhorn, it only suggests that Celtic are getting close to landing former Manchester City youth player Smith’s signature this summer.
