Celtic attacker James Forrest has explained that he’s got the backing of interim manager Neil Lennon to shoot on sight, something which certainly worked last weekend.
The Bhoys beat Aberdeen on Sunday in the Scottish Cup semi-final and will face Hearts in the final.
Forrest broke the deadlock against Aberdeen with a stunning left-footed effort from range that flew into the net and it was his 17th goal of the season across all competitions.
The Scottish winger has weighed in with 20 assists too and has taken his game up another level once again this campaign.
He has explained that Lennon even spoke with him about shooting from range before the semi-final and it definitely had a crucial impact.
“The manager said before the [Aberdeen] game that he could remember a game at home against Hearts where I got the ball and scored with my left foot,”
“He reminded me of that conversation after the game. I don’t normally shoot from outside the box but sometimes if it’s sitting well, then the manager will encourage you to shoot because you never know what can happen.”
TBR’s View:
With the way Forrest has been performing this season, he has every right to be confident in front of goal right now and is capable of scoring some stunning long-range strikes.
He’s become a brilliant goal threat for Celtic and really stepped up his decision making in the final third.
The speed machine provides so much to the team with his dribbling and work-rate, but most importantly now he’s weighing in with loads of goals.
Celtic’s performance against Aberdeen was arguably Lennon’s best to date since taking temporary charge and some may feel it’s enough to land him the job on a permanent basis.
