Celtic and Rangers linked with striker that Darren Fletcher labelled a ‘natural goalscorer’
Celtic and Rangers are reportedly interested in signing Saido Berahino from Belgian side Zulte Waregem after scouting the English striker before the global health crisis – and Darren Fletcher is clearly a fan of the ex-West Brom star.
Berahino, 26, is not short of his critics after multiple drink-driving offences, his poor attitude in trying to engineer a move to Tottenham in 2015 and more recently, swearing at press while attending court –
However, he remains a decent attacker that scored 20 goals during the 2014-15 season – 14 of which came in the Premier League. He has enjoyed a decent return to form in Belgium, having a hand in 11 goals during his 22 outings.
Indeed, Berahino has scored eight times and created three more despite playing in numerous positions. He played alongside Scotland icon Fletcher at Stoke City – and the former Manchester United star is a big fan of Berahino.
“He’s a natural goalscorer, he always has beenm” . “You’re going to have bad periods. His bad period lasted longer than he would have liked but he’s shown character and resilience to keep fighting back from it.”

TBR’s view – Is Berahino good enough for Celtic or Rangers?
There is no doubting the quality of Berahino. When he is full of confidence, fit and scoring goals, Berahino is good enough to be on the verge of an England call-up – something he achieved while at West Brom, without ever earning a full cap.
Both Steven Gerrard and Neil Lennon expect class from their players. A bad attitude is simply not allowed at either of the historic clubs, especially when chasing a title.
If Berahino can get back to his best, and regain his confidence – which seems to be the case in Belgium – he has all the tools to shine in Scotland, but only if the striker can show his past, is in the past.
