The much lamented January transfer window was one of disappointment for the Celtic fans.
It was a window of much expectation. Brendan Rodgers had been talking for months about adding quality to the squad so the fans, quite rightly, expected major moves in the window.
As it came to pass, just two players were added and Adam Idah and Nicolas Kuhn were signed. Much to the dismay of the Celtic support.
The lack of activity has caused unrest amongst the Celtic fans with many believing the club didn’t do enough or work hard enough to strengthen the squad.
But according to journalist, Roger Hannah, that’s simply not the case. In fact, Hannah revealed that Celtic tried to make another two signings just before the window closed.
Hannah said [], “I didn’t expect any £9m signings to come in. I’m pretty sure Brendan Rodgers didn’t expect any £9m signings to come in.
“I think fans maybe expect a couple of £4m signings in the last window. You never know why these deals don’t go through.
“My understanding is Celtic were close to a couple that didn’t quite happen.”
Celtic’s transfer business this season could be costly
The summer transfer window for Celtic can, largely, be called a failure. With eight players brought in, two have left the club on loan [Tilio and Kwon], one was almost allowed to leave [Gustaf Lagerbielke] but because of injury problems had to remain at the club and another three are struggling to make an impact [Nawrocki, Yang and Holm].

Only two, so far, can be regarded as being a success. Palma has impressed in the early stages of the season but now seems to be struggling and Paulo Bernardo has staked a claim in the heart of the midfield after a slow start to the season.
With Rangers breathing down their necks, the Celtic supporters are getting nervous so it is little wonder they look at the transfer business, or lack of it, and wonder exactly what is going on at Celtic.
With a £60m Champions League jackpot up for grabs to whoever wins the Scottish Premiership this season, Celtic’s apparent failure to recruit properly over the last two windows could well prove costly for the club.
