‘Proper fixtures’: Aston Villa fans react as Premier League fixtures are announced
Aston Villa will begin life back in the Premier League with a trip to face Tottenham Hotspur at their new stadium on Saturday 10th August.
The game has also been chosen for live television footage.
It offers Villa a baptism of fire on their return to the country’s top division, as they take on the team who were beaten in the Champions League Final last season.
Dean Smith led his team to promotion through the play-offs during 2018/19, ending a three-year exile from the Premier League.
The release of the new fixtures adds to the excitement for fans of the football club who can now start planning their trips away.
After the Spurs fixture, Smith’s side has back-to-back home games against Bournemouth and Everton, before finishing August with a trip to Burnley.
The Boxing Day fixture throws up a home game against Norwich and the curtain will come down on the 2018/19 campaign with a trip to West Ham United.
It is the opening day contest that has Villa fans most excited, however. Villa have never played at Spurs’ new ground and the supporters will probably travel down in large numbers.
