Carlo Ancelotti singles 22-year-old Everton player out for his ‘fantastic performances’

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has praised Tom Davies for his “fantastic performances” while covering for Toffees teammate Allan when he was injured.

The Everton boss cited the 22-year-old as an example of the strength in depth at Goodison Park as Abdoulaye Doucoure looks set for a spell on the sidelines.

Doucoure was forced off in the second half of the Blues’ 1-0 victory at West Bromwich Albion on Thursday and did not feature against Chelsea on Monday.

Ancelotti believes the 28-year-old will now be out until the international break at the end of this month, with the full extent of his injury still to be evaluated.

However, he feels that Everton will be fine, with Lucas Digne and Allan having been replaced well during their respective spells out of the team.

“We were without Digne for two months and we replaced him really well,” Ancelotti told the Everton .

“We were without Allan for two months and Tom Davies did fantastic performances, and we are going to manage in the absence of Doucoure.

“Of course, he’s a fantastic player, he gives a lot of energy but I think we have the possibility to replace him well.”

Doucoure has been a key man for Everton following his £20million move from Watford in 2020, with just two Premier League games sat out this season.

His absence will be felt somewhat but Ancelotti is confident that the Toffees will cope without him, and with good reason.

Davies covered well for Allan when the latter was injured and, with Doucoure now on the sidelines, he could soon be in line for more starts.
