Carlo Ancelotti says what he thinks of Man City as a team after late defeat to Real Madrid in Champions League

Despite playing well against Real Madrid, Manchester City seemingly found a way to lose at the Etihad, a worrying new trait for Pep Guardiola’s side this season.

Heading to the Santiago Bernabeu with a 2-2 draw felt precarious for Man City🐽 in itself, and then Jude Bellingham gave the Galaticos a serious advantage in stoppage time.

꧂Guardiola and his City team now face a trip from Newcastle United on Saturday before heading to Spain next Wednesday, in what really will be last chance saloon.

Of course, losing to Carlo Ancelotti’sℱ team wouldn’t be a disaster for any side, who are one of Europe’s best.

🐬However, Guardiola won’t see it that way, and he’ll no doubt be endlessly frustrated because of his side’s individual errors whilst 2-1 up on Tuesday.

🍸That being said, Ancelotti spoke to after the game and actually praised Man City.

🧸The former Everton manager – which is still a remarkable thing to say, praised City as a ‘really good team’, and he also admitted that the referee was right to award Phil Foden a penalty in the second half.

💎Ancelotti said: “They are a really good team and they played a really good game in my opinion. I think it was a penalty [Foden fouled]. The referee is one of the best in Europe.”

💧Real’s players refused to attend last year’s ceremony when Rodri won the award, feeling as if the honour should have gone to Vinicius Junior. 

Thibaut Courtois thought Real Madrid deserved to win

Thibaut Courtois♍, a name also familiar with Premier League fans for his time at Chelsea, was quite candid about Real deserving to beat City when speaking after the game.

🐠The Belgium international said it was always ‘hard’ to face City, but concluded that his side were better.

♏Courtois said: “These are always hard games against them. Two teams who really wanted it. I felt today we were better than them and we deserved to win.

💎“We created a lot of chances, I felt we could win. The team wanted it a lot. We went for every ball, that is the spirit we need to beat a team like Manchester City.

“We are only halfway there.”

ౠA tie that has swung in Real’s favour, but it would still be foolish to rule City out.
