Carlo Ancelotti raved about Abdoulaye Doucoure for his latest Everton performance

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti was left waxing lyrical about Abdoulaye Doucoure after his midweek performance against Leicester City.

The Toffees recorded an impressive 2-0 away win against Leicester City on Wednesday night, which lifted them up to fifth in the Premier League table.

The Merseyside club appear to have rediscovered some form with back-to-back wins over Chelsea and Leicester, meaning talks about competing for the European positions this season is back on the cards.

Ancelotti gave immense credit to Everton midfielder Doucoure for his contribution against Leicester, as he helped boss things in the centre of the park at the King Power Stadium.

“I think so. It was the best performance,” Ancelotti when asked if it was Doucoure’s display in an Everton shirt so far.

“He was really intelligent defensively. He understood really well what to do. Also, with the ball, he had some acceleration that was good for our counter-attack.

TBR’s View:

Doucoure has been mainly superb for Everton since he joined them in the summer from Watford, starting every single league game so far and becoming an ever-present in the side due to his consistent performances.

The star was irresistible midweek by showing strong running power with the ball, while out of possession he was defensively astute and made two excellent tackles in the box.

He is a powerhouse central midfielder that was relentless with his energy for the full 90 minutes against Leicester and raised his game defensively when teammate Allan went off injured.

Aged 29, Doucoure looks at the peak of his powers and has turned out to be a great addition to the squad at Goodison Park.
