Carlo Ancelotti praises £22m Everton midfielder after win over Leeds
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti singled out Andre Gomes for huge praise after his performance in the midweek victory away to Leeds United.
The Toffees travelled to Elland Road on Wednesday night for a Premier League fixture and came away with three points after a 2-1 win.
Gylfi Sigurdsson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were the goalscorers for Everton, who avenged the defeat to Leeds from earlier in the season at Goodison Park.
The Merseyside giants are now sixth in the league table after the win, plus they are only four points behind fourth-placed Liverpool with two games in hand.
Ancelotti decided to pick out Gomes for his contribution against Leeds.
The £22million () central midfielder played the full 90 minutes and his all-action display caught the eye of his manager.
“In my opinion, tonight, the best player on the pitch was Andre Gomes,” Ancelotti said, as quoted by the club’s
“He played technically, physically, tactically a fantastic game. This is the real Andre Gomes. The real Andre Gomes that we need.”

TBR’s View:
Gomes has been in and out of the starting XI this season for Everton, but he managed to massively impress Ancelotti against Leeds.
The 27-year-old central midfielder looked assured defensively alongside Abdouylaye Doucoure, plus he showed his natural composure in possession and retained the ball well.
He’s not quite been able to replicate the kind of form he showed before his ankle injury last year, but the ex-Barcelona man is a skilful player in the midfield and there may be a lot more to come from him.
