Carlo Ancelotti calls out ‘unhappy’ figures as he lashes out at Everton squad’s commitment
Carlo Ancelotti has called on any unhappy Everton player to leave the club as the Italian questioned the commitment of some of his first-team squad.
Speaking ahead of the Blues’ clash against Wolves this evening, the 63-year-old lashed out at his team as he called on them to believe in the project or leave the club.
Everton were on the end of yet another disappointing home result after the Goodison Park outfit lost to already-relegated Sheffield United. Daniel Jebbison scored the only goal of the game, condemning the team to their ninth loss at home in the Premier League, the third-most of any side in the division.
It’s in stark contrast to the away form, where Ancelotti’s men possess the fourth-best record in the top-flight, having won 11 of their 18 matches so far.
When talking about his players’ commitment levels, Ancelotti said: “I don’t want to have players here who are unhappy. If there are some players that are not happy to stay where they can ask to leave. I want to have players that want to stay at Everton and feel part of this project.”
“That is for all players. There is no player I can force to stay here. But I told them this recently. They know. If someone is not happy they have to leave.”

One thing that has become abundantly clear over the course of this season is the lack of commitment from a good portion of the first-team squad. That mixed with the failure to handle pressure has seen Everton’s season implode in sensational style.
It’s quite amazing the team can possess such differing records on the road and at home, a sign of deeper problems running within the club.
However, with everything that’s been said, it’s difficult to see the club ridding itself of all the deadwood in order to clear out the squad of those less committed.
Undertaking mass squad overhauls is incredibly unrealistic during a single transfer window, which means the Blues are still going to be stuck with a squad that lacks the necessary mental strength/passion to play for the northwest outfit. Various issues come into play when moving a player on, like will their new club offer them the same wages? Are they at a similar level to Everton? Or, does the player even want to move to the club’s interested?
Whilst Ancelotti has most likely picked out those he feels aren’t committed to the cause, it’s unlikely he’ll be able to move on most of the players he wants to this summer. The process will most likely take a number of years and could see the club struggle next season as well.
