Cardiff will relish chance to extend Wolves’ poor run after controversial April clash
Wolves travel to Cardiff tomorrow night, looking to arrest a run of five Premier League games without a win.
Nuno Santo’s side started the season impressively, but that early optimism has given way to the harsh reality of the Premier League in recent weeks and the Old Gold were abject in Sunday’s 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Huddersfield Town.
They simply were not at the races and if they fall short of the required commitment and energy levels again in South Wales, Neil Warnock’s side will be lying in wait to take full advantage.
The last time Wolves travelled to the Cardiff City Stadium, it was for a huge Championship promotion clash and the title tensions bubbled over in the game’s closing stages.
Ruben Neves’ goal clinched a 1-0 win in a game which culminated in Cardiff contriving to miss two late penalties before Warnock confronted Santo for celebrating wildly at the final whistle.
That has created added needle between the two sides, which adds an extra dimension to a game Wolves really need to win to stop their slump.
Cardiff will give anybody a scrap to take all three points in any case and the extra layer of intrigue and tension added by the acrimony between the two sides makes the trip all the more daunting for Wolves.
