Caoimhin Kelleher shares message Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson sent him after Champions League debut

Liverpool youngster Caoimhin Kelleher has explained that he received a text message from teammate Alisson Becker after his performance last week in the Champions League.

Kelleher is an inexperienced goalkeeper that was given just his fifth senior appearance for the Reds last week, as he was thrown into the starting XI.

The 22-year-old impressed during a 1-0 victory against Dutch champions Ajax, which saw Liverpool qualify for the Champions League knockout rounds as group winners.

With number one goalkeeper Alisson still sidelined through injury this weekend, Kelleher retained his place to keep another clean sheet in a 4-0 Premier League victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield.

The Irish shot-stopper has had a dream time in the last few days with a couple of eye-catching performances.

He has revealed that £66.8million () teammate Alisson sent him a message immediately after his performance against Ajax on what was his Champions League debut.

“My phone was buzzing for about three days after the [Ajax] game… Alisson text me as well just to say well done and that he was proud of me,”

Kelleher has seen his reputation soar in the past week with his displays and it looks like he may now be the back-up option to Brazil international Alisson, meaning Adrian has slipped down the pecking order to third.

Kelleher has been on the books with the Merseyside club since 2015 and has had a brief taste of first-team football in the past, but it looks like his development is now continuing at a rapid date.

He’ll be hoping he can start again in the Champions League fixture midweek against FC Midtjylland and it’s great to hear he’s got the support of senior 28-year-old teammate Alisson.
