‘Can’t speak highly enough of that’: Sherwood makes Arsenal claim as he lauds player with ‘load of ability’

Tim Sherwood told that he cannot speak highly enough of the Arsenal academy as he lauded the club for the way that they have brought Emile Smith Rowe through.

Smith Rowe has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most outstanding talents. It is truly remarkable to think that he has spent less than a year as a first-team regular in Mikel Arteta’s plans.

But his form this season has been rewarded. He made his England debut and then received his first start during the most recent international break.

Of course, his emergence into the Arsenal side comes shortly after Bukayo Saka had already become a key part of the plans at the Emirates.

And Sherwood suggested that the progress that Smith Rowe has made highlights just what a special set-up Arsenal have at Hale End.

“If you watched him play at Huddersfield, went to Germany, you wouldn’t be able to pick him and say he can play for Arsenal,” .

“But they know the capabilities of the kid. They know the qualities he possesses, they know he’s going to get better around world-class players. They’re putting him on the field, the kid is growing with a load of enthusiasm and a load of ability. And I can’t speak highly enough of that academy there at Arsenal at the moment.”

Smith Rowe leading Arsenal forward after benefitting from Gunners’ previous struggles

While Sherwood has lauded Arsenal for seeing the potential in Smith Rowe, it is surely fair to say that Arteta’s hand was somewhat forced.

He came in at a time when the Gunners were really struggling and Arteta looked to be facing a fight to keep his job.

Smith Rowe made the most of his opportunity. And now it is hard to imagine him not being involved when he is fit and available. He is now pushing for a place at next year’s World Cup.

The academy certainly deserve huge credit. In Saka and Smith Rowe, Arsenal have two incredible prospects Arteta can build his team around for years to come.
