‘Can’t believe my eyes’, ‘hope he gets a chance’: Some Arsenal fans wowed by video of 19-year-old prospect
A number of Arsenal fans have been left in awe at a recent highlights video of Mark McGuinness, comparing the Gunners academy defender to Per Mertesacker and Tony Adams.
On Tuesday night, Arsenal’s Under-21s were in EFL Trophy action, taking on Ipswich’s senior side at Portman Road.
The hosts took the lead through Jon Nolan but the young Gunners – with an average age of just 18 years and six months – rallied round to get back in the game and eventually come out on top.

George Lewis equalised for the visitors on his Arsenal U21 debut, before Folarin Balogun latched on to Ben Cottrell’s through-ball and beat David Cornell with a great finish.
McGuinness, the Gunners U21 captain, looked solid as always at centre-back, winning aerial duels and showing great composure in challenges.
And after some Arsenal fans were able to see the 19-year-old in action, as per a clip shared on the Gunners Academy’s Twitter feed, they realised just what a talent they have on their hands.
Last-ditch tackles, cross-field passes and a vital goal-line clearance ✅
Keep it up, 👏

Here is some of the reaction:
I can’t believe my eyes bro, tears of joy, our club is stacked with good potential CBs and that too so many of them are at a very young age

Guy looks a future Adams in the making. Hope he gets a chance. We should be giving martinez the gloves now, it’s his chance now.

Mertesacker 2.0, I am sure Per is the perfect mentor for him.

He went for the really ball n didnt win it
Next thing he ran to the goal line which was the best decision— #SegaAppreciation (Prof.) (@Bestdgooner)
