Can Ronaldo Vieira become a centre-back under Marcelo Bielsa?

Leeds United are set for an exciting season under the guidance of new manager Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentine has a reputation as one of the best managers in world football and Leeds can get set for a rollercoaster season.

So could Bielsa’s presence see a change of position for one player?

In the past, the new Leeds boss has been keen to use defensive midfielders in the back-line. He first moved Gary Medel into centre-back for Chile, where he has since played for his nation. At Athletic Bilbao, he moved holding midfielder Javi Martinez into centre-back. It allowed the now Bayern Munich man to help the side play out from the back and play the football Bielsa wanted.

So, who at Leeds could Bielsa turn into a central defender?

The England under-21 international is one of the hottest prospects at Elland Road. In a back-three, in particular, it is easy to see Vieira dropping into the defensive positions.

His pace would make him a formidable opponent at the back and his range of passing is exactly what Bielsa would want at the back.

Vieira had a difficult second season in the Championship and it could be a change of position may revitalise the talented 19-year-old.

If Bielsa wants to adapt a midfielder at Leeds into a central defender then Vieira is the best option available to him.
