Can Robbie Gotts be the next youngster to breakthrough at Leeds?
Many Leeds United fans have been concerned about the club’s small squad this season, but on the flip side it’s allowed them to put faith in a number of academy players.
Manager Marcelo Bielsa has already helped the likes of Jamie Shackleton, Jack Clarke and Leif Davis make real inroads to the senior team this season.
The Whites sit top of the Championship table as it stands and the youth teams have done themselves justice in producing quality players at Elland Road in recent years.
There will be many wondering who the next wonderkid destined for a breakthrough is and Robbie Gotts could be the answer.
Gotts is currently a key part of Leeds’ Under-23s side and is an exciting attacker with big potential.
The 19-year-old is yet to make his senior debut, but has been on the bench during five Championship games this season without getting on the pitch.
Angus Kinnear, who is the Leeds managing director, has confirmed that Gotts is close to signing a new contract with the Yorkshire giants and extending his deal beyond the summer.
“Robbie will be signing a new contract this week. He is a player with a really exciting future.”
Gotts knows he’s at the right place to earn a first-team chance, as Bielsa has proven he’s willing to thrown youngsters into the mix.
He’s a right-winger by trade with good movement and pace, but the fact he can drop in at right-back too should help his chances of featuring at senior level before the end of the season.
A new contract is certainly a vote of confidence in him and academy prospects have shown they can make the step up.
