‘Can lights up Vicarage Road’ – Three things learnt from Watford 0-1 Liverpool

Emre Can’s sensational scissor-kick was enough to secure a vital three points for Liverpool against Watford and send them four points clear of Manchester United in the race for the top four.

In an uneventful first-half, the returning Adam Lallana – brought on after ten minutes for the injured Philippe Coutinho – nearly gave Liverpool the lead with a superb dipping volley that cannoned back off the crossbar before Can went one better, firing in a sublime over-head kick in time added on.

This goal changed the feeling of the game after the break, with Jurgen Klopp’s side playing with more confidence and freedom, and Heurelho Gomes was forced into a number of strong stops.

Lallana missed the chance to wrap things up on the counter-attack but Liverpool had done enough to ensure that they capitalised on their close rivals dropping points over the weekend.
