Can injury-prone Andre Green kick on after netting winner for Portsmouth?

Andre Green is widely considered as one of Aston Villa’s best young players and he has been in and around the first-team for a while now.

But injuries have hampered his progress over the past few years; without his constant setbacks, he could well be a regular in this Aston Villa side already.

With 28 senior appearances for the Villans under his belt, Green was sent on loan to Portsmouth this summer to aid his development.

But it has been a similar story for the young winger, who has been on the sidelines for chunks of this season.

Green has only managed to play in one League One fixture this season with his other two outings coming in the EFL Trophy.

The 20-year-old scored against Tottenham’s under-21 side in the EFL Trophy in mid-November but had to wait until yesterday afternoon for his next match.

With the FA Cup clash between Rochdale and Portsmouth poised at 0-0, Green was thrown on with 14 minutes remaining.

And the England under-20 international scored the 90th minute winner, albeit via a fortuitous deflection.

It will not matter to Green how the ball went in; the most important thing is that he is back out playing and getting his name on the score sheet.

Green needs to take this confidence into his next game, hopefully steer clear of any more injuries and then he can kick on ahead of next season with Aston Villa.
