Campbell names Arsenal target Jesus the best pressing striker in the world
Kevin Campbell that Gabriel Jesus could be classed as a world-class striker, and suggested that the Arsenal target is the best pressing forward in the world.
Arsenal are continuing their pursuit of the Manchester City star. For some time, it has seemed that he may well end up at the Emirates this summer.
Reports claimed that Arsenal are quietly confident about signing the £51 million-rated star. Personal terms have reportedly been all but agreed with Jesus.
But Arsenal face competition. Chelsea and Real Madrid have been offered the 25-year-old. Meanwhile, he is reportedly aware that Tottenham also want him.
It would be particularly disappointing for Arsenal if they missed out on Jesus. It has appeared for a little while that he is right near the top of their wishlist. And Mikel Arteta absolutely needs to sign a marquee striker this summer.
Campbell certainly believes that it would be a real coup for Arsenal to Jesus. In fact, the former Gunners star suggested that Edu could hardly do better given Arteta will be looking for.
“He’s young, he’s fit, he’s a Brazil international. You could say he’s world-class because he plays for Brazil. He starts up front. So on the world stage, he starts for Brazil, although we know for Manchester City, he doesn’t start as much as he would like,” .
“But I tell you one thing, everybody seems to know he’s the best pressing striker out there. And that’s what Mikel Arteta needs.”
Jesus the best pressing striker in the world
The international break has probably played its part in delaying when a lot of teams get stuck into the window. But you can also understand why Arsenal are potentially not jumping at the chance to sign Jesus.
If he lives up to expectations, £51 million could prove to be a bargain. But he currently has just one year left on his contract at the Etihad Stadium. So they may feel that the asking price is a little steep.
One thing that is for certain is that the Arsenal hierarchy would be asking for trouble if they failed to sign Jesus and did not have something special up their sleeve in response.
