Callum Davidson says ‘brilliant’ 24-year-old could get his first start of the season vs Hibs this week
Mikey Johnston is certainly the man of the hour this week after his impressive 45 minutes against St Johnstone yesterday afternoon.
The Republic of Ireland winger was brought on to help change the dynamics of the game after a turgid first-half performance by Celtic took them in at the break 1-0 down.
And he didn’t disappoint. Not only did he not disappoint, he delivered an outstanding performance that had Celtic boss, Brendan Rodgers, singing his praises in his post-match press conference.
And it seems that young Mikey might have just played his way into Celtic’s starting eleven for the visit of Hibernian on Wednesday.
That’s according to former St Johnstone manager, Callum Davidson, who watched the wingers ‘brilliant‘ display against his old side.
Davidson said [], “We talked about the wide players James Forrest and Mikey Johnston’ number five and number six on the list of wingers [to picked to start for the first team].

“You know, Mikey Johnston is probably trying to sort of get a place in the team and his performance in the second half, he’ll be hoping he’ll be starting the next game.”
Johnston is likely to get the nod against the capital club, isn’t he? With Hyunjun Yang struggling to produce any kind of consistent form, the Irish international will get a start to see what he can do against one of the Scottish Premiership‘s better sides.
If Johnston does get selected, it is up to him to ensure he keeps the jersey. With Daizen Maeda and Liel Abada close to a first-team return, the Hoops winger will have another tough job on his hands to convince Rodgers that he is still worthy of being chosen ahead of, arguably, two of the club’s best attackers.
