Cagliari president details Leeds relationship, before admitting deal for reported Whites target is close
Speaking after the two sides drew 1-1 in a pre-season friendly this weekend, Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini discussed the relationship between the Italian side and Leeds United.
, the Cagliari president made it clear he hopes for a fruitful relationship with Leeds going forward.
The two teams celebrate their centenary years just one year apart from each other and are due to play again next summer. Giulini hopes that Leeds will be in the Premier League by then.
“This is an opportunity to pay tribute to the friendship between two clubs celebrating one hundred years of history.
“We enjoyed hosting Leeds United here in front of our fans… We hope to find Leeds in the Premier League when we go to play with them (next year).”
However, he then went on to discuss his hopes of signing a player Leeds have been linked with this summer.

Nahitan Nandez was reportedly on Leeds United’s radar. in April, Leeds were ready to make a bid for the Boca Juniors midfielder this summer.
The Uruguayan international is, however, believed to be on his way to Cagliari instead. Giulini commented after the Leeds game that the Rossoblu were ‘fixing the final things’ ahead of a deal for the player.
“We hope good news comes from Argentina, now the lawyers are fixing the last things. Nandez wants to come to us, he knows what tradition the Uruguayans have here in Cagliari.”
, the club have agreed a $20 million (£16.2 m) deal to sign the 23-year-old.
So whilst Cagliari and Leeds are hopeful of having a special relationship, it appears the ITalian side have swooped on this Leeds target.
