Sean Dyche highlights the exact point when Burnley’s season transformed
Burnley boss Sean Dyche, at which point he felt his underperforming team turned a corner.
The Clarets boss had witnessed his side slip into the relegation zone around Christmas due to a woeful start to the 2018/19 campaign.
Burnley have overachieved for several years and even qualified for the Europa League this season following a seventh-placed finish last season.
Their start to this season was alarming but Dyche’s men have picked up in recent weeks.
The Burnley boss believes that a 5-1 reverse at the hands of Boxing Day was the catalyst for their revival.
“It was a tough day on Boxing Day and we had to realign.
“They take massive credit for that because in the next game against West Ham we were excellent and it floods back in very quickly.”
Reviving fortunes
Since the Toffees horror show, the Clarets have picked up 15 points from seven league games, showing that they are starting to get back to their best.
The charismatic Dyche explained that he has struggled to pin down what was wrong at the start of the campaign, especially given last season’s stunning season.
He continued: “As a manager, it’s really difficult to put your finger on it because you’re working diligently with the staff and the players. When it comes back you can smell it and after West Ham, you could feel it coming back into the group.
“We’ve delivered some very good performances of late.”
Burnley defy the odds season upon season and a large amount of credit must fall in Dyche’s lap.
They will want to push on now for the remainder of the season, with a mid-table finish about par for the course for the Clarets.
On Saturday Burnley defeated Brighton 3-1 and based on Dyche’s latest comments it looks as though Burnley have their mojo back.
