Bundesliga star likens Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham to Steven Gerrard amid Liverpool transfer links

Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham has a host of admirers in the Premier League, but also in the Bundesliga with Augsburg’s Reece Oxford likening the rumoured Liverpool target with Steven Gerrard, while speaking to .

The Anfield natives have been credited with an interest in Bellingham’s situation by , who claim Jurgen Klopp’s side are keeping tabs on the midfielder’s development in Germany and could step forward with a potential return to England.

Liverpool could be met with fierce competition from their great adversaries, with figures at Manchester United also noted to be desperately disappointed to not have Bellingham on their books after missing out to Dortmund last year as they struck a £25million deal with Birmingham City.

Chelsea are also said to be among the clubs most interested in the 17-year-old as they weigh up options who can improve Thomas Tuchel’s side, but may face an asking price as high as £100m with Dortmund thrilled by his progress and him ticking so many boxes.

Oxford, a product of West Ham United’s academy, would agree with the sentiment that the all-round midfielder is a great box ticker, as Bellingham has everything needed to be one of the top players in his position like Gerrard one day.

“He plays like he’s played in the league for about three years,” Oxford . “He’s comfortable, strong and he’s aggressive. He’s got everything to be a top player. Everyone compares him to the Steven Gerrard’s and stuff, but he’s got everything to be a top player if he keeps his head down and focuses.”

TBR’s view:

There is no doubting Bellingham’s potential to be a star in central midfield for club and country for years to come, with the teenager rightly earning Oxford’s praise having already become a senior England international and showcasing his potential on the biggest stages.

Bellingham excelled in the Champions League quarter-finals against Manchester City and should have had a goal at the Etihad Stadium before netting in the second-leg, having become enshrined at the heart of Dortmund’s midfield within his first year.

It is no wonder, then, that Dortmund are convinced Bellingham is on the same path as Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland and that he will soon be worth around £100m, likely raising issues for the clutch of Premier League sides keen to offer a return to England in the future.
