88% passing, 12 duels won: £40m star sends message to Arsenal with stunning latest display
Arsenal continue to be linked with a number of top players during the January transfer window but one area they are keen to strengthen is in central midfield.
The decision to let Ainsley Maitland-Niles go in addition to already being lightweight in the middle of the park, means Mikel Arteta is desperate for a fresh face. Sambi Lokonga has done well since he arrived in the summer, while Granit Xhaka has done well to come back from injury. Thomas Partey, as we all know, is the main man in there. But beyond that, Arsenal lack proper depth.
One man who has been linked with the Gunners to solve their midfield issues is Lyon star, Bruno Guimaraes. The 24-year-old Brazilian has been on the radar for some time. He continues to be mentioned, too, with reports just last week suggesting both Arsenal and Newcastle want him.

And playing for Lyon last night against PSG in Ligue 1, Guimaraes showed everyone at Arsenal just what they can have.
Bruno Guimaraes Oozes Class As He Shows Arsenal What Could Be
If ever there was a game to judge Guimaraes on in France, it’s against PSG. Despite the frailties Pochettino’s men can show at times, they are still top dogs in Ligue 1. And last night, Guimaraes showed everyone what he was about.
The South American oozed class in the middle. He did, at times, dominate Verratti and Paredes and was responsible for the opening goal from Lucas Paqueta in the seventh minute. It was a moment of quality from a player very much looking keen to impress.
And the stats back up Guimaraes too. Per , he completed more than 889% of his passing, won 12 of an attempted 16 duels with opponents, and completed three key passes in the final third. Couple that with an impressive five from six tackles won, and it really was an all-round midfield masterclass.
In simple terms, if Arsenal want a midfielder to do it all, then Bruno Guimaraes might be their man. Indeed, based on the evidence against PSG last night, the Brazilian has got it all.
Arsenal fans, then, can be pretty excited if this is a deal which Edu and Arteta choose to pursue.
