‘Bring on 56’: Some Rangers fans react to reported development with key Ibrox player

Rangers fans have responded with delight to a report that says Connor Goldson is set to sign a new deal.

While Filip Helander and Leon Balogun have both played considerable roles in Rangers’ excellent defensive record, they have both had to compete for the centre-back berth next to a man who’s come to be seen as a defensive rock.

With just 11 goals conceded in 34 Premiership matches, Rangers‘ title triumph has been built on solidity at the back, and no-one has contributed more to that stinginess than Goldson. http://gty.im/1302943195

have reported that the Englishman is set to sign a new deal which will see him remain at Ibrox until the summer of 2024.

It comes shortly after Rangers confirmed a new contract for captain James Tavernier.

The Rangers supporters below are thrilled with the prospect of Goldson remaining in Glasgow for another three years.

The 28-year-old, who joined from Brighton in June 2018, recently made his 150th appearance for Rangers.

As quoted by after Rangers were crowned champions in March, Goldson said: “I still don’t think it has sunk in properly what we have actually achieved.

“I have still got goosebumps thinking about it. It was amazing and probably the best day of my career.

“Was this part of the vision the gaffer sold to me when I signed back in 2018? Yeah, it was. Did I think it would be three years later? Probably not.

“I didn’t realise how far behind Rangers were until I came up here and actually played that first season. You do have doubts.

“But, at the same time, we have worked our socks off and the recruitment has been brilliant. You look at the club I am in today, and it is 100 times better than the club that I joined.

“That is not just playing squad, it is around the place and what has been done in the canteen, what has been done at the training ground, what has been done at Ibrox.

“The whole place has improved and that is credit to every single staff member that works here to the board and the chairman to put in what it takes to make this club successful. It has paid off.”
