‘Bring him’, ‘Replacing smile with smile’: Some Liverpool fans react to reported ‘smokescreen’
Some Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media after reports by the claimed Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus is wanted at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have been monitoring Neuhaus for a number of months as they assess potential midfield targets. The position is not currently viewed as a priority area, despite the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum.
But Liverpool will continue to track Neuhaus at Euro 2020 as he strives to play a key role for Germany. The 24-year-old has occupied a fringe presence in Joachim Low’s squad since making his last October.
Liverpool could move for Neuhaus later in the summer transfer window depending on the futures of those currently at Anfield. Any players following PSG-bound Wijnaldum out of Merseyside may see Klopp strengthen his plans to improve the position.
Neuhaus has already strengthened his position on the Reds’ shortlist, as well, by stating that he is open to leaving Germany. But Bayern Munich are also interested in the midfielder .
“I could very well imagine going abroad,” he told earlier this month. “I don’t necessarily have to go to Bayern Munich. But I don’t necessarily have to change, because I feel very much at home at Borussia Monchengladbach at the moment.”

However, while Liverpool like Neuhaus, some supporters question why Klopp is considering a move for the 24-year-old. That’s because they feel the need to strengthen other areas of the squad – like at striker – are more pressing concerns.
Neuhaus made in all competitions for Monchengladbach last season, scoring eight times and offering 10 assists. Among those outings, he played all but 21 minutes of Die Fohlen’s Champions League matches as they reached the Last 16.
