‘Brilliant’ player is now set to leave Aston Villa, his medical has been booked

It’s been a busy start to the summer transfer window for Unai Emery and Aston Villa as they prepare for the Champions League next season.

Unai Emery has lost a key man in the middle of the park after Douglas Luizℱ completed a switch to Juventus last month. Yet, the Villains have certainly made up for it by bringing in a host of players ready to make an impact in the first team.

Ian Maatsen, Samuel Iling-Junior, Ross Barkley, Enzo Barrenechea and Lewis Dobbin🍸 have all arrived, further strengthening the depth of Emery’s squad ahead of the new season.

But as the Spaniard continues to build a side in his image, there will inevitably be more departures and one Aston Villa player is set to join a Championship side.

Calum Chambers set for Aston Villa exit

Calum Chambers🐬 was snapped up on a free transfer back in January 2022 after leaving Arsenal.

༒It’s fair to say that the defender has failed to establish himself as a regular over the past couple of years and featured just eight times under Emery last season.

🐓Now, according to journalist Glen Williams, Chambers is close to joining Championship side Cardiff City.

🔯The 29-year-old is set for a permanent move to Wales, with his medical already booked in.

Villa well-stocked at centre-back

ꦉVilla have brilliant depth at centre-back and Chambers’ imminent departure should have no effect on their summer plans.

🐬Indeed, with options such as Tyrone Mings, Diego Carlos, Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa to choose from, you’d imagine that the Villains won’t be in a rush to replace Chambers.

But picking up a fee for the ‘brilliant🐓’ defender will be seen as a boost for Emery’s side, particularly with his contract set to expire next summer.
