Brilliant Arsenal teenager back to his best on loan; Unai Emery must take notice

Arsenal youngster Reiss Nelson helped himself to goal number seven for the season yesterday. The winger is on loan at Hoffenheim and netted the club’s second goal in a 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin.

It was a timely goal for the man on a season-long stint in the Bundesliga from the Gunners. It is a fair statement that the 19-year-old has hit a dry patch of late.

Nelson has only started five games for the German club and yesterday was the first time he has contributed in the way of a goal or an assist since November.

The Arsenal academy graduate is yet to really make the grade at the Emirates Stadium but is widely regarded as one of the club’s best youngsters.

A struggle to force his way into the side and injury concerns have both hampered his progress. As a result, Emery would be wise to give Nelson the benefit of the doubt when it comes to assembling his squad next season.

Targets will naturally start to be linked with moves to the Gunners in the summer, with wingers expected among those. Any potential arrivals in wide areas for Emery should only add to the competition for Nelson.

The youngster has five more games to prove his credentials during his loan spell. Following that he will return to the Gunners and should get a chance.

He has done pretty much all he can despite not being a regular in Julian Nagelsmann’s team. Seven goals despite just five starts isn’t a bad return and his potential indicates he could have a bright future with Arsenal.
