Brighton’s reported Reece James pursuit is good news for Rangers’ hopes of keeping James Tavernier

Rangers face a battle to keep James Tavernier this summer with English clubs circling. , Brighton and Southampton – who both managed to avoid relegation in the Premier League this season – are interested in Tavernier.

The Rangers captain has caught the eye this season, scoring an impressive 16 goals from right-back. Most of those have been penalties but his tally of 20 assists is equally impressive.

Although his defensive work has sometimes been questioned, Brighton have decided to target Tavernier ahead of the summer window.

But Brighton also have another target in mind. , Chris Hughton’s men have had a bid rejected for Reece James but they are set to return with another offer.

James currently plays for Chelsea but he has spent the season on loan at second-tier side Wigan Athletic. After being named Wigan’s Player of the Year and taking a place in the Championship Team of the Season, it is clear to see why Brighton want him.

The 19-year-old is rated as one of England’s most exciting right-backs. And he appears to be their top choice ahead of Tavernier this summer.

This provides a boost for Rangers. If Brighton can sign England youth starlet James, then they will surely drop their interest in Tavernier.
