Brentford transfer chief believes Pontus Jansson will ‘flourish’ after Leeds United exit
Brentford’s director of football Rasmus Ankersen believes that Pontus Jansson can ‘flourish’ at Griffin Park, following his move from Leeds United this summer.
Leeds sold the Sweden international for a to be in the region of £5.5 million this summer.
The exit came as a surprise to many, considering his consistently impressive displays for the Whites since joining from Torino in 2016.
What was even more surprising is that he headed to a Championship rival like Brentford.
Ankersen however, , says he has no problems with Jansson’s attitude and feels Brentford can offer the 28-year-old something different.
“He adds something else: more a backbone of the squad, experienced leadership.
“I know there have been some question marks about his character but we really like his character.
“We’ve done a lot of digging on this. We spoke to people who shared dressing rooms with him. All those things. We talked to him as well and tested some of the assumptions.
“We can really make him flourish even more in our environment.”
Jansson made his full debut for the Bees yesterday, as they lost 1-0 at home to Birmingham City to start the Championship campaign.
Despite that fact, Leeds fans will undoubtedly miss Jansson, who had become a cult figure at Elland Road.
Leeds go into the first game of the season with Bristol City today with just two recognised senior centre-backs in Liam Cooper and loanee Ben White. Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling, who can cover, are suspended and injured respectively. Under-23 Dutchman Pascal Struijk is expected to be on the bench.
