Brentford fans react as Arsenal announce Christian Norgaard, they make one thing crystal clear
Arsenal have now completed the signing of Christian Norgaard from Brentford.
The Denmark international – aged 31 – becomes the third player to join the Gunners this summer after Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi moved to the Emirates Stadium from Chelsea and Real Sociedad respectively.
Arsenal have paid a fee of £15m to sign Christian Norgaard – and Brentford fans have now made one thing explicitly clear after losing their captain to Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal supporters should be very encouraged about how Brentford fans have reacted to Christian Norgaard exit
The response of a fanbase who have just lost a player can often be quite telling – after all, they are the ones who watch on a weekly basis.
Norgaard – who Tottenham also wanted – spent six years with the Bees, making 196 appearances in all competitions, so there is plenty for Brentford fans to go off, and it therefore speaks volumes they are devastated to lose the Dane.
One Brentford fan wrote “this is going to be a massive loss for us” while adding that they are “not the same team without him in it” – which suggests Arsenal have signed a gem.
Others added that this transfer “hurts” to see, adding that Brentford “always struggle without” Norgaard – who clashed with Gabriel Martinelli last season – in the squad.
One Brentford supporter added “say hi to David for me” in reference to the fact Arsenal also pinched David Raya away from the Gtech Community Stadium in 2023.
A fourth Brentford fan simply posted the word “devastating” – which pretty much sums the mood up.
Andrea Berta has revamped the midfield department superbly
Arsenal released Jorginho and Thomas Partey this summer after their contracts expired, a vastly experienced duo who can boast a combined 326 Premier League appearances.
Therefore, despite the fact they are getting on a bit at the age of 33 and 32 respectively, Arsenal needed to replace the pair, or they risked entering the 2025/26 campaign with a severe lack of squad depth.
However, before we even reach the middle of July, Berta has managed to sign one of the best midfielders in Europe in Zubimendi for £55.8m, while also replacing the lost Premier League experience with the signing of Norgaard, who has 122 appearances in the competition to his name.
While that is impressive work from the Italian, a striker is still needed, with talks over Viktor Gyokeres ongoing between Arsenal and Sporting CP.
