Brennan Johnson sends two-word message to ‘outstanding’ Tottenham youngster after Vissel Kobe win

Tottenham Hotspur winger Brennan Johnson appears to be a player with a point to prove in north London in the coming season.

After making a big-money move to Spurs from Nottingham Forest, Johnson made 38 appearances for the club in his first season scoring five goals and providing 10 assists.

Respectable numbers for the 23-year-old who evidently has what it takes to become a key figure for Ange Postecoglou.

But right now, Johnson’s spot in the Tottenham eleven isn’t automatic, even if he does start the majority of games.

Perhaps that will always be the case for Johnson under a manager like Postecoglou who likes to vary his attack.

But the Welshman will surely believe that he can one day offer a similar level of performance to Son Heung-min, who would never sit on the bench when fully fit.

That being said, Johnson has started all three of Spurs’ pre-season friendly wins thus far, even grabbing a goal against Hearts.

And the winger has looked exciting alongside a host of talented youngsters like Archie Gray, Mikey Moore and Lucas Bergvall.

But perhaps with all the praise being handed out in pre-season, Jamie Donley’s efforts playing as a makeshift left-back have been a little understated.

Ben Davies was back ready to start against Vissel Kobe but otherwise Donley begun in the role against Hearts and QPR.

Outstanding‘ Donley came on at half-time in Spurs’ 3-2 win over the Japanese side, the last game they’ll play in the country before jetting off to South Korea.

And after the game Donley took to to recognise that the first stop of pre-season had been completed, an enjoyable one for the club.

Donely uploaded a photo of himself from the game alongside a caption of “Thank you Japan.”

A lot of the midfielder’s youth teammates replied with their support, the likes of Alfie Dorrington, Will Lankshear and Ashley Phillips.

But among the replies there was also a message from Johnson who jovially shared a response saying, “Thanks Jamie” – appearing to reply on Japan’s behalf.

Jokes aside, pre-season is providing an exciting chance for both Johnson and Donley for different reasons, two big talents.

All that being said, Lucas Bergvall has been hailing one of his Tottenham teammates for the connection the two have behind the scenes.
