Brendan Rodgers says 22-year-old Celtic player is really catching his eye in training

Brendan Rodgers was full of superlatives last night as Celtic trounced Hibs 4-1 at Parkhead last night.

The Hoops gaffer was extremely happy with Matt O’Riley’s performance as the Danish midfielder scored and put in an impressive performance against the Edinburgh side.

But there was another player who Rodgers thought was ‘excellent’ last night and not only that, he said he’s been superb in training recently.

The Celtic manager was speaking about Hyeongyu Oh as the 22-year-old scored a brace after getting his first start of the season.

Rodgers said [], “I thought Oh was excellent in particular. Up front, he was a good reference point for the team and delighted with him.

“He’s definitely playing with that confidence. He’s penetrating and he’s getting in behind. Like I said, he shows a strength, comes inside and it’s a really, really good finish.

“He’s training really, really well and when he’s playing he’s been very effective.”

Could Heongyu Oh keep Kyogo out of the Celtic team?

That is the question and it is one that Rodgers was asked last night after the game. Whilst the Hoops gaffer was non-commital although he didn’t rule it out altogether.

Rodgers said [], “We’ll see. “He’s playing well. It’s just whatever the game needs. It was ideal for him tonight and he came in and did well.

“But at this time of the season you need a freshness, especially in the forward areas.”

It’s fair to say that Oh deserved his opportunity and my goodness, didn’t he just take it?

The South Korean has been struggling for gametime at Celtic but to be fair to him, when has got it from the bench, he has taken his chances.

Now it’s just a case of getting more starts for Oh because off of the back of last night’s performance, he’s certainly starting to show what he can offer this Celtic team.
