Brendan Rodgers explains why Cameron Carter-Vickers was substituted in Celtic’s win vs Hibs
Celtic’s win over Hibernian tonight had the potential of being a banana skin for Brendan Rodgers’ side tonight.
An insipid St Johnstone performance drew an angry response from the Celtic manager and his team responded with a great performance in the 4-1 win to keep their place at the top of the table.
However, it seems as if could have come at a cost after Rodgers replaced Cameron Carter-Vickers at halftime with Nat Phillips sparking fears that the US defender may have suffered an injury against the capital club.
Brendan Rodgers was asked about Carter-Vickers’ substitution and the Celtic manager cleared up why the 25-year-old defender was taken off.
Rodgers said [], “Cam felt his hamstring a bit tight. It is the one position that we haven’t changed about so much because the continuity is very important for the two centre-halves. So yeah, so we just took him off as a precaution.”
That could be a cause for Celtic as they head into a packed December schedule this month. However, the bonus for Rodgers is that he has Nat Phillips, Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke all waiting in the wings should they be required to be called upon.

The USA international defender has been absolutely pivotal to Celtic this season and there is no doubt that he was missed when his hamstring caused him to be out of the team for a period of time at the start of the season.
If he is out for any length of time it is important that he is not rushed back too quickly as we all remember what happened against Lazio when he was thrown back in at the deep end.
Celtic now face Kilmarnock at the weekend and Rodgers will be hoping that Carter-Vickers will get the all-clear as an away trip to Ruby Park can be a tricky venue to negotiate.
