Brendan Rodgers dubbed reported Celtic trialist ‘first class’ and ‘a demon’ in May
It appears Celtic could be looking into a potential deal to sign Danny Simpson this summer, just weeks after he was released by Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City.
that the 32-year-old will join Celtic on trial next week. The former Premier League winner will be hoping to win a contract at Parkhead.
Simpson was released by the Foxes in the summer after five years at the King Power Stadium. He was part of Claudio Ranieri’s miraculous 2015-16 Premier League winning side.

But last season he lost his place in the Leicester team to Ricardo Pereira. He played just 13 times last season.
Celtic’s former boss Rodgers barely used him after taking over at Leicester. However, he was a big fan of the player., the former Celtic boss had no doubt that Simpson would find a new team this summer.
“He is absolutely first class. He just wants to play now. He’s a good player, a good guy, and I have enjoyed working with him.
“He has trained very hard, he trains like a demon every day, and he’s at the age where he is still fit, still feels young and not ready to be a cover player.
“He has ambition to play and he still has, certainly another a few years at this level to go and play – to be a starter somewhere and that’s the reason why he is going to move on…I’m sure he will go on and get a really good club and go on to show his talent.”
Celtic desperately need a new right-back this summer. Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa both left this summer whilst Jeremy Toljan’s loan spell came to an end. Norwegian centre-back Kristoffer Ajer has been filling in the role.
Simpson will now hope to prove Rodgers’ prediction correct by earning a contract at his former club this summer.
