Brazilian’s agent addresses reported Newcastle interest

The agent of Club Brugge striker Wesley Moraes has confirmed discussions have already taken place about a possible summer move to St. James’ Park.

Paulo Nehmy has commented on the recent reports () the Magpies want to sign the burly Brazilian, who was involved in 27 goals in 2018/19 (17 goals, 11 assists).

Apparently, any move to the north east of England will hinge on what happens with Rafa Benitez.

He told TheLaziali (): “Are Lazio interested still? Yes, it is true, Lazio are interested, but between being close and getting the business done it still demands conversations.

“What about Newcastle? Are they in the running? Yes, it’s true too, we already had a conversation. But, Rafa Benitez needs to renew his contract. West Ham have also made contact.”

Wesley has Europa and Champions League experience already and would cost in the region of £16 million, according to The Chronicle.

TBR’s view

Newcastle fans will be pleased to learn that a conversation has taken place.

A large proportion want Salomon Rondon to sign permanently after a superb loan stint in 2018/19.

But there are increasing fears the Venezuelan, coveted by other teams such as Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United – will be deemed too old by owner Mike Ashley.

The main man Newcastle fans want to see at the club though is Benitez, who has done an amazing job on limited resources since taking the gig in March 2016.

It is little surprise that Wesley and his representative want the Spaniard – who remains locked in talks with owner Ashley with his current deal expiring – to remain before thinking about a potential transfer.
