Borussia Dortmund are ready to rival Manchester United and Arsenal for midfielder who seen as a ‘generational talent’
TBR Football understands that Borussia Dortmund remain firmly in the hunt for Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg.
The England youth star is on the radar of more than half the Premier League, with Manchester United and Newcastle leading the chase in the last 18 months.
Rigg, who has drawn comparisons to Paul Gascoigne, is widely recognised as a generational talent and the Red Devils had been pushing hard to bring him to Old Trafford.
TBR Football can reveal that United believe they have put a very good case to the teenager, who is open to the idea of a move to the Theatre of Dreams.
However, Rigg has yet to make a decision on his future, which is expected to see him depart the Stadium of Light this summer, although he is not yet guaranteed to leave Wearside in 2025.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham join the race for Chris Rigg
Aside from Ruben Amorim’s team, Chris Rigg has his choice from the likes of Newcastle United, who his family support, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.
Arsenal and Manchester United have both scouted Grigg, but they are facing a strong battle in the bid to sign the talented Championship star.
However, TBR Football has also been made aware that clubs such as Everton, West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Brighton should not be discounted.
The 17-year-old will seriously consider his career pathway – if he thinks he can learn under someone like David Moyes or Graham Potter, it could be an option.
Chris Rigg open to Bundesliga move
Likewise, a move abroad cannot be ruled out – Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig are all confirmed admirers, but there has been long-term interest from Borussia Dortmund – where their top UK talent scout Daniel Dodds has had the line on him for years.
Dodds is the brother of former Sunderland coach and now Wycombe boss Mike, who informed him of the immense talent that was Rigg.
Rigg has also witnessed what Dortmund have done for the careers of young English talents such as Jude Bellingham, Jadon Sancho and Jamie Gittens, and that could be a huge selling point.
