Bobby Zamora gives his verdict on new West Ham striker Haller
Former West Ham United striker Bobby Zamora has spoken out about the Hammers’ new arrival, Sebastien Haller.
Zamora plied his trade for the east London outfit between 2004 and 2008. In that time, the twice-capped England man notched 38 goals and 13 assists in 148 appearances for the Irons.
Now, the 38-year-old has retired from the game, and was watching over West Ham’s new hitman during the club’s pre-season clash with Fulham. Zamora was certainly impressed by what he saw from Haller. As quoted by West Ham’s , Zamora said of the French forward, “he’s a big, strong boy, and he’s certainly going to have to use his physical presence in the Premier League…I’m sure it’ll take him a couple of games to find his feet, but he’s got a good record and hopefully he can score those goals and get the Hammers up into the European places.”
Manuel Pellegrini certainly needs his investment in Haller to pay off. West Ham struck a deal that could eventually cost them £45 million to bring the 25-year-old to the London Stadium, as reported by the .
With Marko Arnautovic having left the club, Haller looks set to bear the burden of leading the line for his new team. This is quite the responsibility, especially considering West Ham have ambitions of, as Zamora put it, getting “up into the European places”.
However, Haller’s recent record suggests he could be the right man for the job. He was in prolific form last season, racking up 20 goals and 12 assists for Eintracht Frankfurt. West Ham fans, like Zamora, will be hoping he can translate that form into the Premier League.
