‘Blimey’, ‘exactly what we needed’: Some fans erupt as midfielder joins from Everton

Thursday morning brought some news out of the blue for the Everton fanbase as Toffees academy graduate Kieran Dowell completed a permanent move away from Goodison Park.

The 22-year-old joined Norwich City for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract, linking up with the Canaries as they set about trying to win promotion back to the Premier League.

Dowell was listed in as Everton’s standout prospect, but since then his career has yielded mixed results.

Although Dowell has impressed for Everton at youth and reserve level, he has only made five senior appearances for the Toffees.

Indeed, his last appearance in the Premier League was over four years ago, against Norwich in the final league game of the 2015-16 season.

Most of Dowell’s time on the books at Everton was spent out on loan, with stints at Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Derby County and Wigan Athletic.

However, he now has a chance to put down roots at a club which will be fancied to return from the Championship back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

“I’m very pleased with this transfer because Kieran is full of potential,” Daniel Farke told the .

“He’s a young player on his way up and has experience on the international stage. He’s young, homegrown and has proven that he can score goals and get assists, so he’s pretty versatile in all offensive positions. I think it’s a great addition to our squad.

“He caught my eye when he was on loan at Nottingham Forest with many goals and assists, never losing his way. We’re really pleased as there was a lot of competition for his signature. It’s a really good transfer for us and I’m pleased that Stuart Webber was able to bring him in.”

And plenty of Norwich fans are pleased about the signing too:
