One to Watch: Brighton’s Yves Bissouma shows glimpses of quality despite error vs Liverpool
Yves Bissouma again showed glimpses of his obvious quality after starting his first Premier League game in Brighton’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on the weekend.
However, these glimpses were clouded by an error which led to Mohamed Salah’s goal, which eventually consigned the Seagulls to defeat.
A ball carrier by nature, Bissouma’s attempts to navigate his side out of Liverpool’s well executed press were made too close to goal.
In losing possession, the Malian gave Liverpool a clear path through to goal and Salah made no mistake sliding the ball past Mat Ryan into the far corner.
Brighton manager Chris Hughton was supportive of Bissouma after the game, that the mistake was ‘learning curve’.

He continued: ‘They’re a very good pressing team, arguably the best pressing team, and if we put ourselves in that position then it becomes very difficult’.
Bissouma was otherwise active, completing 27 of his 31 passes and making seven interceptions.
He did not look out of place at Premier League level, and his one error likely will not dissuade him from his natural willingness to dribble and attempts to evade pressure with quality.
Other tests will not be as stern as Liverpool and Brighton have an excellent run of fixtures coming up.
They play Southampton twice in their next three games and only face two of the Premier League’s top six in their next fourteen matches.
It is a nice run for Bissouma to build up confidence in his ability to perform in the Premier League.
