Billy Dodds feels Rangers are solving ‘Achilles heel’ with much improved Nikola Katic

Former Rangers and Scotland striker Billy Dodds has expressed his delight that Ibrox defender Nikola Katic has come good in Glasgow.

Last season saw the Croatian drop in and out of favour with Steven Gerrard at Ibrox. Despite showing his talent on numerous occasions there were aspects of his game that Gerrard often found frustrating and Katic was often dropped.

However, the centre-back has been in far more consistent form for Rangers this season and has been a regular at the back for the Glasgow side.

, the ex-Scotland international was full of praise for the Rangers defender.

“There is no doubt Rangers’ defence has improved. It was their Achilles heel last year, but Katic looks like a proper defender now and they have good options.”

Dodds’ opinion actually came after a game in which Katic struggled slightly. Hearts’ big man up top Uche Ikpeazu caused him plenty of problems throughout the game.

But he rode the storm well and even managed to knock the ball down for Rangers’ equalising goal.

It was a tough season for Katic last term, with it clear that Gerrard was not 100 percent convinced of his ability but he has undoubtedly improved at the start of this season.

Hopefully, that trend can continue going forward.
