‘Biggest problem’… Chris Sutton tells Brendan Rodgers there’s a ‘very obvious’ issue at Celtic he must fix
With Celtic set to face Hibs tonight at Easter Road, nothing but three points will do for Brendan Rodgers’ side as the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership narrows.
More dropped points at Pittodrie on Saturday have led to Chris Sutton telling Brendan Rodgers that there is a serious issue at Celtic the Hoops gaffer must fix.
Sutton said [], “There’s a very obvious momentum swing since Philippe Clement has come into Rangers. He’s building a team which, every week, they’re gathering belief.
“They found a way to win tonight but they were comfortable in the end. It wasn’t all pretty but they got over the line.
“And Celtic have been inconsistent and that Celtic’s biggest problem.
“They’ve not got a great record at Easter Road under Brendan Rodgers so it’s time for Celtic to go there and respond.”
Celtic’s form this season under Brendan Rodgers is a worry
There is no getting away from the fact that Celtic have struggled to find any kind of momentum under Brendan Rodgers this season.
Let’s compare the team’s results at this point from the same point under Ange Postecoglou last season.
After 24 games this season, Rodgers has suffered two defeats and four draws. Back-to-back losses against Kilmarnock and Hearts in December allowed Rangers to significantly close the gap at the top of the table.
Of the draws all have come against teams struggling at the bottom of the table. A 0-0 against St Johnstone in August and Hibs in October meant that Celtic lost ground in the title race early into the season.
A draw against Motherwell in November and again on Saturday at Pittodrie meant that Rodgers has now dropped 14 points at this stage of the season. []
Now let’s take a look at Celtic under Ange last season. Postecoglou’s side where imperious in the hunt for the title.
A shock 2-0 defeat against St Mirren in September sparked Celtic into life and they went on an incredible 12-game winning run.

That run came to a halt in the 2-2 draw with Rangers at Ibrox in January and from there, Postecoglou’s side went on to win their next four games.
So at the same stage last season, Celtic only dropped four points under Postecoglou and that is a serious area of concern for the Celtic fans.
Rangers are in the race not because they are any better. It’s quite clear that the only reason there is a title challenge is because Celtic’s standards have seriously dropped from last season.
