‘Big presence’: Manager hails Arsenal loanee who some fans have compared to Tony Adams
Arsenal academy ace Mark McGuinness has embarked on his first stint away from the Emirates Stadium.
The 19-year-old defender will spend the 2020-21 season on loan at Ipswich, hoping to help them back into the Championship.
McGuinness was captain and man of the match when Arsenal’s Under-21s won 2-1 at Portman Road in the EFL Trophy earlier this month.

Ipswich boss Paul Lambert said the youngster was already on his radar but seeing him deliver such an impressive performance helped make his mind up for good.
“His name was mentioned a few weeks prior to it,” Lambert told the club . “We had a chance to see him close up when he played against us. I thought he was excellent.
“I think anybody in the stadium that night would’ve seen that the young lad is a really good player. He’s got a big presence about him so I’m really happy.
“He looked a really good leader as well for somebody so young. His no nonsense approach was really good. He’s comfortable on the ball.
“It’s a good challenge for him to take on and it should be a beneficial loan move for him.”

McGuinness is an incredibly talented young defender who has already earned comparisons with Tony Adams and Per Mertesacker by Arsenal fans who kept tabs on his displays.
Like watching a young tony Adam’s right there, be nice if he grew into a player like tony

Guy looks a future Adams in the making. Hope he gets a chance. We should be giving martinez the gloves now, it’s his chance now.

He’ll now get the chance to impress at senior level for a team eager for promotion from League One, and if it all goes well, then it’ll surely be food for thought for Mikel Arteta with an eye to the future.
